Description: How to install and configure IIS 7 on Microsoft Server 2008 for Exact Synergy Enterprise and Exact Synergy

By default Windows Server 2008 will not install the Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0.  The following are the steps on how to enable the IIS 7.0 in Windows Server 2008

1)      Go to Control Panel and click on [Administrative Tools]

2)      You will see the following screen:-

Click on [Server Manager] to proceed.

3)      You will see the following screen.

Click on the [Roles] on the left panel.

Click on [Add Roles] to proceed.

Click [Next] proceeds.

Tick [Web Server (IIS)] and click [Next >] to proceeds.

Click on [Next >] to proceeds.

 

Tick the following services under Common HTTP Features:-

Common HTTP Features - Static Content

 

Tick the following services under Application Development:-

Application Development - ASP .NET

Application Development - .NET Extensibility

Application Development - ASP

Application Development - ISAPI Extension

Application Development - ISAPI Filters

Tick the following services under the Security:-

Security - Basic Authentication

Security - Windows Authentication

Tick the following services under the Management Tools:-

Management Tools

Management Tools - IIS Management Console

Management Tools - IIS Management Scripts and Tools

Management Tools - Management Service

Management Tools - IIS 6 Management Compatibility

Management Tools - IIS 6 Management Compatibility - IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility

Management Tools - IIS 6 Management Compatibility - IIS 6 WMI Compatibility

Management Tools - IIS 6 Management Compatibility - IIS 6 Scripting Tools

Management Tools - IIS 6 Management Compatibility - IIS 6 Management Console

Note: Exact Synergy Enterprise does not need the IIS 6 Management Compatibility but this is very useful for the Web Server Administrator to do maintenance and configurations.

Click [Next >] to proceeds.

Click [Install] to proceeds.

Click [Close] and you had successfully installed IIS 7.0.

 

Next you will need to open IIS: Control Panel/Administrative Tools/ Internet Information Services (IIS) manager:

 

Authentication

Select Default Web Site from the connections section.  Double click the icon Authentication, make sure 'Anonymous authentication' is Enabled.

Note: If you are using Synergy then select Synergy from the Default Web Sites and enable ‘Windows Authentication’

Configure Application

Select the new Virtual Directory called Synergy (see example)





And double click on the ASP icon to set the option Enable Parent Paths to True. (See example)





Repeat step to (Enable Parent Paths) also for the Default Web Site!

This final setting is only necessary when you are using a 64bit system with Exact Synergy (ASP-Integrated).   

Start the IIS manager and expand the server name. Click on "Application Pools", a list with available Application Pools will show. Select the Default App Pool and then press right click, Advanced Settings.
Change the setting "Enable 32-bit Applications" to True and press OK.
